Cueilleur d'essences

I am a big fan of perfume user, and not to be modest at all, i wear perfume like everyday and everywhere, possibly i might just wear a bit too much. (10 taps at least)🤪 when i discovered this book few months ago when i was in Taiwan, i couldn't be more happier because i believe this book will open a new door for me to explore the knowledge of aroma, and make me eager to understand what type of scents attracting me the most, and what the ingredients inside of my perfume bottles. This book introducing how perfume industry works, and telling the story about the most essential and treasure scents all over the world. I am very impressed by the author, the way how he describes the story make me feel like i am traveling with him into the ancient forest of Lao, seeing how people collecting the benzoin from trees without murdering them, or harvesting the fresh grows patchouli in the Indonesia. After i finished this book, there is a chapter intrigued me the most, which is a story about the vetiver in Haiti.

I had never knew a plant called vetiver until i read this book. it a plant origin from India, been discovered by french around 1750s. Indian reusing the root of vetiver for curtain, and simply spread some water on it, entire room will become very refreshing. and this scent only become really popular in 1950s (thanks for the Carven and Guerlain they introducing the Vétiver perfumes), from this book the author describes the scent of vetiver is very original, pure, full of personality, woody, and smoky like fire but very gentle and deep. Generally its a scent presenting our mother earth! while i reading this part i became so curious about this magic grass, and its says Tom Ford has the perfume called Grey Vetiver which perfectly describes this fragrance, and then i went some perfume stores in my city, trying to searching for this magical scent, and luckily i found the sample in the end, and its exactly like what the book described, i love it so crazily more than my (ex) favorite lelabo santol 33, but unluckily NO ONE SELL IT. I tried to order it through store, or online, the only answer is NO STOCK, or UNAVAILABLE.

I can not explained how frustrated back them, but i figured if this fragrance so particular, how come no one trying to copy the formula and making money for themselves? and then i spent some time doing another research, its seem like the Malin+Goetz share the same thought with me🤓. I compare the perfume pyramids between Malin+Goetz and Tom Ford, they are very similar just some tiny difference. The top note they all using grapefruit, floral notes for middle, and the base notes are vetiver, and amber. I believe they are pretty close enough, so i decided to take my risk order the Malin+ Goetz instead. Today i received my order, i must to say... I LOVE IT. After all they all has the magic grass vetiver, how possible can it goes wrong.  😂
